Emergency Department Technician I POSITION
Summary:
Responsible for providing for service, patient comfort, safety and personal care; and provides communication between patients, family members and staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provides direct patient care as requested by the primary care nurse, including activities of daily living, e.
g.
, ambulation, dressing, feeding, toiletry needs and reporting any changes in patient status.
Ascertains and records accurate vital sings, including rectal temperatures, pediatric weights, with abnormal findings reported to primary care nurse or charge nurse.
Assists nursing staff in gathering information pertinent to the patient's care including the patient's physical needs and functional status in order to provide patient care.
Accurately performs the twelve lead EKG tracings on patients per physician order.
Performs duties as assigned and supervised by the primary care nurse, charge nurse in accordance with certification and hospital policy, e.
g.
, pulse oximetry, orthostatic vital signs, specimen collection with appropriate labeling and recording.
Demonstrates current knowledge of hospital and department policies and procedures including universal precautions.
Provides wound cleaning as assigned and supervised by the primary care nurse or physician.
Applies dressings/dressing changes not requiring sterile technique to wounds under the direction of the primary care nurse or physician.
Assists nurses and doctors with procedures, e.
g.
, suture set-ups, proper use of restraints, i.
e.
lumbar punctures, IV set-ups, pelvic exams and safely transports patients' supplies and specimens throughout the hospital.
Prepares patients for dismissal by primary care nurse to include removal of electrodes, oxygen, DC IV.
Provides patients with appropriate means of transportation out of the Emergency Department.
Splints sprains/fractures on extremities under the direction of the physician.
Successfully completes clinical competencies described in the department's competency program and documents accurately and in real time.
Stocks and cleans patient treatment areas with needed supplies while maintaining a clean, safe environment.
Maintains proficient communication and interpersonal relationships with patients, families, significant other, visitors, physicians coworkers, and the community.
Responds promptly and courteously to patients' and families' needs while ensuring confidentiality and privacy.
Demonstrates competence in relation to the defined mission, vision, values, and strategic plan of the organization.
This will be apparent by ongoing completion of any or all of the following:
proficiency testing, skill demonstration, practice of core standards for service excellence, and documentation review.

Job Requirements
Qualifications:
REQUIRED:
One (1) year experience in an acute care hospital setting, preferably emergency department or one year pre-hospital experience as an EMT; Ability to speak English and have legible handwriting, knowledge of spelling, grammar and basic arithmetic; Skill in dealing with the public and telephone courtesy; and Skill in proper use of body mechanics.
Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
Current OR cert as an EMT TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to withstand constant walking, standing, lifting at least 50 lbs.
or more, push/pull regulation hospital equipment occasional sitting, Must be able to function during periods of stress, and exposure to trauma and/or disease, and have the requisite visual, auditory and fine motor skills.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
