Director of Special Services Job
Responsibilities:
Provide confidential secretarial services to District special education administrators using discretion with frequent sensitive student issues, as well as matters of concern involving department staff members.
Maintain administrators' calendars and schedules of appointments.
Order supplies and materials and prepare purchase orders.
Assist administrators in fiscal oversight of special education funding.
Analyze urgent situations accurately and exercise judgment in taking effective action when dealing with parents, students, and co-workers of all levels.
Maintain awareness of and compliance with federal and state regulations regarding Special Education.
Responsible for maintaining and submitting accurate information to the special education student database system.
Track, organize, and maintain extensive confidential files on all special education students in the District.
Provide training and guidance to site-level n office staff regarding special education processes and procedures.
Act as liaison for district personnel in absence of administrator/director.
Oversee the process of receiving special education student records of incoming students.
Monitor gathering and disbursement of various student progress reports to parents.
Compile numerous reports, memos, agendas, and meeting notes for site, district, and State levels.
Assist administrators during all phases of compliance reviews.
Provide backup support to the secretary in greeting guests and answering phones.
Perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
Excellent human relations skills and be able to communicate well with others.
Ability and willingness to learn a wide variety of tasks required in special education recordkeeping and in Ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexible to meet the varying needs of staff, students, parents, and office visitors.
Organization skills in collecting and organizing data.
Proficient in electronic communication, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Google Sheets; and comfortable with student database software as well as general office equipment operation such as phones, fax, copier, etc.
Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, special education laws, regulations and practices.
Maintain confidentiality of student and special education records.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
